History Series
Maybe you love history, but you would like someone to take your student further into what history offers citizens of the 21st Century. These are four-week history studies that include a hands-on building project and a book study both of which are directly tied to the information bringing the whole student into the experience of the stories of humanity’s past.
Study hall
Remember study hall? Oh, man was it the best time to doodle, pass notes, make faces at your friends, and sleep! The best sleep ever! Not in this study hall. This one is for groups of two to five to ask questions and seek understanding of sometimes complex ideas or subjects through explanation and discussion that translates information into knowledge. Subjects include: Biology, Environmental Science, Ecology, History, Philosophy, and Literature.
Lightening Week
Homeschooling every subject by yourself can be hard. Everyone has subjects they love…and subjects they hate. For the latter, wouldn’t it be nice to just sail through them and move on to those subjects that you find way more fun? That’s what Lightening Weeks are for. These are explorations of topics that typically require a lifetime of study...we do it in five days. These are lecture-based, one and a half hour sessions for ages 13 and up. Current topic offerings include: The Enlightenment, The French Revolution, and The Industrial Revolution. Coming soon are Topics in U.S. History and History of Southwest Florida.
Private tutoring
One-on-One guidance through dense topics. Every student hits those walls that stand between a learner and that Aha! moment…private tutoring is the way over that wall. These low-pressure, fun sessions are conducted in conversation with parents to best target the individualized learning needs of each student.
Book Study
Remember book reports? “Please name the title, author, plot….snore” Literature is the emotional reaction of humanity to civilization in time and place! Buried in the ink and pages is truth about life as a human on this planet! Book Study dispenses with symbolism, themes, plot lines, climax and anticlimax and interacts with different texts the way they should be: emotionally, subjectively…as it speaks to the encounter of the human condition with the written word in all it has to offer. The students are given the freedom to react, interact, and engage with literature through their own interpretation in the context of their own life. Two options include one hour a day for five days or one day a week for four weeks and includes the book, a journal and will incorporate creative arts. These are optimal for homeschool students, co-ops, or schools looking to add a little something extra to their existing curriculum.
