Description
Join us for a guided kayak exploration of Big Hickory Island—an unforgettable 2–3 hour experience that brings the natural history of Southwest Florida to life. Designed with homeschool families in mind, this journey is part science, part storytelling, and all adventure.
As we paddle through mangrove tunnels, estuarine backwaters, and along barrier island shorelines, we’ll encounter the ecosystems and species that make this region one of the most biologically rich in North America. Along the way, we’ll uncover the layered histories of the land—from indigenous lifeways and early settlers to modern conservation efforts.
Led by an experienced educator and naturalist, this program invites participants into the story of where they live—fostering curiosity, connection, and a sense of place. Whether you're spotting dolphins, identifying mangrove species, or paddling past a shell midden built centuries ago, every moment deepens understanding and wonder.
What to Bring:
Families should bring sun protection (hat, sunscreen, sunglasses), water shoes or sandals, and lightweight clothing appropriate for time on the water. Drinking water will be provided. Please note: There are no restroom facilities during the paddle, and participants should be prepared for full sun exposure over 2–3 hours.
